The FDC comprehensive curriculum consists of two texts. One is Empowerment Skills for Family Workers, developed and written at Cornell University by Dr. Claire Forest, Ph.D. The other is Empowerment Skills for Leaders, also written by Dr. Forest (with K. Palmer-House and C. West). Both include much input from families, frontline workers, program supervisors, and policy makers who attended focus groups, reviewed drafts and participated in pilot tests.
The FDC curriculum can be purchased and used by staff and leaders in a variety of contexts. Most commonly it is purchased for use by FDC instructors, portfolio advisors, and workers who are part of an official FDC credentialing program that has been established within an agency, a coalition, or a college setting.*
*To prepare participants to earn the FDC credential (or FDC Leadership credential), a training program must have at least one instructor who has attended an FDC Instructor’s and Portfolio Advisor’s Train the Trainer Institute and maintains current certification by the National FDC ® Program.
