Welcome to the official National Family Development Credential® Program, the original strengths-based training series for family service providers and leaders, now proudly celebrating its 30th year!  Over 20,000 family workers and leaders from various human service agencies and colleges across the country have earned the prestigious Family Development Credential. For many, this training is an important step in career advancement. The Credential is recognized nationwide, as all FDC programs share the Core Principles, follow comprehensive curricula developed by Dr. Claire Forest, and meet the same rigorous standards. This highly interactive classroom- and practice-based training series consists of a 90-hour series for family workers and a 30-hour option specially designed for leaders. Official FDC credentialing programs have been established by family service agencies, Head Start programs, coalitions, and in college settings.

What difference does FDC make? Family service professionals who have completed FDC training consistently describe its positive impact on their work with families, coworkers, and communities, as well as their own sense of purpose and work-life balance. In addition, the Empowerment Skills for Family Workers curriculum meets the Head Start Staff Qualifications and Competency Requirements, 1302.91(e)(7).

The Family Development Credential® is the original strengths-based curriculum for family workers and leaders, and still the best.

  • Quote from FDC student: “The FDC program has enlightened us on the importance of emphasizing families ‘strengths and recognizing them as the true experts of their own lives, which they absolutely are.”
